What: Generation Salaam is a summer program for students ages 12-18 that creates space for them to tell their stories and learn stories from others. This is accomplished by creating relevant projects to complete in the fields of photography, visual arts and music, investing in cultural and emotional intelligence, and incorporating this learning alongside peers and adult mentors.
Generation Salaam hosts summer programs via Zoom calls for middle and high school students from Grace Family Churches, Proskuneo and the Clarkston/Gwinnett area to attend.
How: We see adults as vital to the program as the students in Generation Salaam! The role of adult volunteers is to facilitate questions in breakout groups over Zoom, assist students in personalizing the content and empowering students to apply learned skills for their respective projects.
When: The program will take place over four Thursdays in July (9, 16, 23, 30). Volunteers commit to joining the Zoom call each week from 6:15pm-8pm and facilitating a portion of the call with a small group of 2-3 students.
No background in the arts is required. There will be a volunteer training Zoom call on July 6 from 7pm-8pm. A link to join the training call will be emailed after you have registered.
